If you have ever updated any of the apps that come with Windows 10, then you have probably noticed that your default apps are reset after the update. The same thing also happens when you update the operating system itself. This can be frustrating at best. You will have to set the default apps that you want to use again, which wastes time unnecessarily. You can easily prevent the inconvenience by using Stop Resetting My Apps, a handy application that prevents your computer from setting the built-in apps as the default applications.

Using Stop Resetting My Apps

We downloaded the application and saved it where we wanted to launch it directly since it did not require any installation. Upon launching the application, it displayed a single window that gave information about its use on the upper part and displayed the built-in apps on our system on the lower part. The apps appeared in tile format as they do on the Start menu.

Using Stop Resetting My Apps was a breeze. To block an app, we simply clicked on its tile. Please note that you can also tap the required tile if you are using a touch-screen device. Each blocked app displayed a "Stop" sign on its upper right corner, which made it easy to identify them.

When we right-clicked on files to display the context menu, the blocked apps did not appear when we selected the "Open with" menu item. They could not be selected as the default apps. However, that did not interfere with their functionality as we could launch them whenever we specifically wanted to use them.

We followed the same process when unblocking apps. Clicking on their tiles instantly unblocked them.

If you do not want Windows 10 to change the default apps without your permission, then Stop Resetting My Apps is the application you need. You block the built-in apps that you do not currently use by clicking on their tiles in the program window. Clicking on them once more unblocks them. Blocking an app prevents it from being set as the default app without affecting its functionality.
