Many users are concerned about Windows privacy issues, especially with Windows 10. As a result, different applications have been developed to help them tweak the privacy settings without technical knowledge. While these applications almost always only work with Windows 10, WPD is also compatible with Windows 7, 8 and 8.1.

Features and Functions

Given that WPD is a portable application that you do not have to install, simply extract the downloaded file into a place from where you will launch it. You need to run the application with administrator privileges.

Once launched, WPD displays four buttons at the center of its window for accessing Windows privacy, firewall, apps and tweaker. The main interface also includes an option to create a restore point that can help you get back to your current settings.

When you navigate to any of the four sections, the application window will display its associated settings and a left-nav menu is included to quickly access the other areas or the main application window.

The privacy tab separates settings into categories, including local group policy, services and scheduler. Each item in the lists has a button on its left for turning it on or off and a "?" symbol to the right. Clicking the symbol displays more details about the item, such as what it does and the effect of turning it off. Features that do not apply to your system are greyed out. You may disable all features at once by clicking the button on the lower right corner of the window.

The Firewall tab lets you configure your preferred firewall rules, which only apply when Windows Firewall is enabled. However, you have the option to copy the rules to your own firewall. You can block Windows telemetry, third party apps and Windows update, with a warning that blocking third party apps may disrupt some Microsoft programs and another warning that it is not recommended that you block Windows update. Applying or removing a rule takes just a mouse click.

If you have ever tried to uninstall some of the apps that come with Windows or any other that you may have installed without success, then you can easily remove them with WPD. You may also tweak other Windows settings to further enhance your privacy.

WPD is a lightweight but powerful application for configuring Windows privacy settings in a few simple steps. It gives you access to all relevant settings in one place. The application is compatible with Windows 7, 8, 8.1 and various editions of Windows 10.
