Webtile IRC Compact is an intuitive application for Internet relay chat. The application can run on any computer running Windows 7 or later operating system although it is particularly designed for machines that do not support higher resolutions than 800 x 600 pixels. The systems must have Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5 installed.

Using Webtile IRC Compact

The installation process was smooth and fast although IE users will receive a warning from SmartScreen filter when starting the process. The graphical user interface was divided into two main parts: the section on the left listed all users while the right one displayed the active chat. We could also view YouTube videos on the right pane.

We connected to IRC by clicking on 'Connect' from the 'File' menu. A pop-up window allowed us to enter server details, including nickname, server port, server, chat room and password before clicking the 'Connect' button. We got a list of pre-configured IRC server details by clicking the button next to the IRC server URL textbox.

The chat area consisted of eight tabs, seven of which were meant for chat room conversations. The eighth tab allowed us to carry and monitor private conversations between us and different IRC users. All the seven tabs were labeled 'In-Active' while the eighth was labeled 'Private-Chat,' making them easy to identify.

We joined a chat room by selecting any of the 'In-Active' tabs and then typed the name of the chat channel or room we wanted to join before clicking the 'Join' button. The application then joined to the specified chat room or channel. We switched chat rooms or channels by selecting another tab or typing the name of the required room/channel and then clicking the 'Change Channel' button. We sent messages by typing what we wanted to share in the message textbox and clicking the 'Send' button.

If we wanted to send a private message to a user, we selected the user in the current chat room and then clicked the button marked 'Add User To Private Chat.' We then selected the required nickname in the 'Private-Chat' tab, from where we could also respond to private messages sent to us by other users.

The application allowed us to use all the functions of IRC as it fully supported the IRC command console. We could configure the type of font we wanted to use and alert we wanted to receive.

Conclusion

Webtile IRC Compact provides a simple interface for both private and chat room communications via IRC. You can carry conversations in several chat channels from different tabs. The application automatically refreshes the list of users every five minutes.
