How to Watch Live TV Over the Internet

Want to quit cable and save big money by watching your favorite TV online? Fortunately for you, there are heaps of ways to do that. By switching to online streaming, you can now watch channels and hit series that used to be bound in your cable subscription, with only a small monthly fee without any contract or equipment rentals. You can also say goodbye to inefficient customer service.

It’s called cord cutting. But making this move will really depend on your preferences and watching habits. If you are only interested in specific channels, there are standalone subscriptions for that, so you don’t have to pay all the other stuff you don’t really watch. So what are your options?

1. Cable Replacement

If you like live TV, these are for you. Here are streaming programs that work just like cable and satellite subscriptions that offer a variety of familiar channels. Except, you watch them over the internet rather than satellite signals.

Sling TV and PlayStation Vue are the most popular of these services, and they are in the same price range. With Sling TV, you can watch sports channels like ESPN as well as HBO and Cartoon Network. While PlayStation Vue offers ESPN, Fox News, Fox Sports Channels, Nickelodeon, HBO, Showtime, TNT, Disney, and a host of other popular channels. YouTube TV is fairly new as well as Hulu with Live TV. There is also DirectTV Now which includes channels like E!, TBS, USA Network, and all your favorite Sports channels.

3. Network Subscriptions

There are also stand-alone network subscriptions that let you stream live TV online, and they are on-demand. Which means, you just watch them when you want to.

There is the CBS All Access which comes at a very low price and is one of the few networks that went completely streaming, offering access to both live TV and recorded programs. It’s new but very promising, and they are aiming to broadcast the upcoming Star Trek Series exclusively.

In line with this, other premium channels quickly adopted the strategy including HBO Now, Showtime, and Starz.

4. Live News

You can still get your live news over the internet. There are lots of local news programs on various broadcasting networks that play for free online. This includes Fox 5 News just to name one. Go to their website and find the news section. You will immediately see if they offer live streaming of their news programs.

Prices will vary depending on how many games you would like to watch. You can even watch big games like the Super Bowl.
