"Tons of great, useful, features for programmers"

RJ TextEd Portable 11.20

This program is packed with features, one of the first you will notice is that it has a fully featured file explorer (only available as plug-in in Notepad++), it also has file templates for tons of file types, if features really nice syntax highlighting, themes (I like the Charcoal dark slate), split document view, macros, scripts, integrated web browser preview (IE & Chrome based), there are too many additional features to list.

The interface was a bit overwhelming at first and some of the items didn't show a tool tip on mouse over for some reason. I used the portable version and it was a bit slow to load up, but, once it gets going things move right along. I didn't see any plug-in or extension support, maybe I missed it though.

Other Thoughts:

I have had an on again, off again relationship with Notepad++. I stop using it when I get frustrated over simple things like needing a plug-in to do things like manage files. I worked with RJ TextEd for a couple of hours writing a web form with HTML5, CSS, and PHP, all in separate files. The transition between documents was quick and smooth and felt more natural that the plugin explorer in Notepad++, and miles better than the non functioning file manager in Brackets. I could see this program replacing Notepad++ and Brackets as my go to editor, only time will tell if it is lacking somewhere I cannot see at the moment.

Previewing allows you to select browser (IE, Firefox, Chrome)

Other Thoughts:

There is a portable version available from publishers website. I always prefer portability because I can take my USB stick and work anywhere.

This editor does everything! On top of that, there is even a portable version. And it just keeps getting better.

"Extremely Nice!"

Other Thoughts:

Not being able to find a good free editor, with a spell checker, I bought one, only get one update without having to pay a portion of a new version, and here it was all the time - RJ TextEditor! It's better than the one I bought; it has a spell checker; it has everything I need, including tabs and a file explorer. I can't find what it doesn't have. Get it! You'll certainly use it!

"Your System Problem"

Other Thoughts:

Paul N.: You should contact the author about your issue. GDI32.dll is a very common file, so the problem is with your system, not the program. You should not base your poor rating on a problem that you know nothing about. The very fact that it is not on the forums implies that it is on your end, not a problem with the software. I have been using this program for a LONG time as my only code editor, and have donated to the author who is very reachable and will make every effort to resolve your issue. Have you posted this issue to the forums?

"Waste of my time"

Other Thoughts:

Standard and portable downloaded. Both refuse to run, give an error in gdi32.dll.

Description makes it look impressive but I'd rate it zero if I could. No mention of similar problem on support forum, either.

No help or instruction for installing portable version. Standard help file not indexed properly.

Needs lots of work.
