"Gibberish in Windows 10 when opening any docx file"

by: Wayne

SoftMaker FreeOffice 2018

2020-09-12

Pros:

The interface is really beautiful and award worthy in its design and implementation

Cons:

I tried opening various file formats starting with *.docx . A small bit of gibberish was all that came up on the document. I tried the same documents in Google Documents and Libreoffice and they opened perfectly. I then tried *.odt documents and it opened them with little problem.

Other Thoughts:

A lot of people say this program doesn't have a lot of bloat, but if it doesn't open Microsoft documents properly and If I have to use Libreoffice to convert all docx to odt just to use the program I might as well stick with Libreoffice.

"Excellent freeware (although you do have to register)"

SoftMaker FreeOffice 2018

2018-12-04

Pros:

I have used the free version of SoftMaker Office for years, and it does all I need. Okay, some people might need more advanced features in an office suite, but for the average person this does all you should ever require, and more besides.

Cons:

None, apart from having to register, but that's not really a deal breaker for me.

Other Thoughts:

You can even use it as a portable application if you wish.

"It doesn't deserve my bad first review. My appologies"

SoftMaker FreeOffice 2016

2016-05-22

Pros:

Please read 'Other thoughts' below first. I feel that this program has a lot of potential for the average user who does not need the bloated Office/libra/MS programs that try and do everything for everyone. To type a letter, make a CV, or use a basic spreadsheet its small size makes it a crisp program to use. I often use TEXT to make notes and suspect this will take over all my needs.

Cons:

None if all you want is the ability to put words into text and do basic spreadsheet maths. I do not do presentations so that is for others to check.

Other Thoughts:

I must have had a bad install and been grumpy so gave it a bad review. Wanting to be fair, I reinstalled it for a 2nd try. It still didn't spell check, but did if I highlighted text, so that is a user error and shows that I/we all need to read instructions! I should have trusted the F/W~files moderator not let a bad program through. An ex-programer from the 70~80's I feel bad, as I know what it feels like when a novice blames the writer.

"Works well"

SoftMaker FreeOffice 2016

2016-05-08

Pros:

Installs quickly and easily, has most things you would need to create various documents and presentations. I gave it a four because I haven't fully tried it out but looks like a five and its free.

Other Thoughts:

I don't know what the previous reviewer is on about. It works well and smoothly. I put ten mis- spelt words and it found them all. When it asked for all my details I just canceled and went on with my work. Just about anyone should be able to find their way around this office unit. I had most of it worked out in less than five minutes.

"Long Time User"

SoftMaker FreeOffice 2016

2016-05-08

Pros:

Been using the software since 2008. Easy transfer from MR. Big to a more efficient suite. The Free version does not include BasicMaker. It cost me $20.00 for the full version. It never expires. Saves in every possible format inc. docx.

Cons:

No regrets at all

Other Thoughts:

What software company offers free support? Softmaker does. Who do you know at the mega $$ software giants? You will get to know the people at Softmaker and they do listen to ideas for minor patches.

"how did this get on to freewarefiles?"

SoftMaker FreeOffice 2016

2016-05-06

Pros:

None, just awfull

Cons:

It hardly works. Mr average will not work out how to start it. Once started he cannot go to another eg spreadsheet. I typed 3 lines of spelling mistakes in word and not one was detected! All this AFTER I have given every detail of my private life.

Other Thoughts:

User beware. I suspect I will soon get lots of begging emails!
