 | "Future" I have been ardent user of compusec for a while but i have eventually switched to Truecrypt. Times before, compusec ruled the encryption world but i can testify Truecrypt is fast upcoming and looking at its list of intended future developments it will sure rule the scene of encryption in time to come. Currently Truecrypt is more flexible when it comes to recovering data and that for me makes it is safer than Compusec to use.

 | "Got worse" I have tested compusec 5.2 and it seems to have a problem of losing its MBR after using it for a while. Compusec 5.1 wasn't prone to this issue. Also the compusec utility (rescue disk) is not available for download at the user forum thus complicating issues. Even with the utility you cannot mark a hard disk as encrypted in Compusec 5.2 as with the previous version (5.1). So If you had compusec 5.1, stick with it for now.
Here is how i got back to my data after compusec 5.2 MBR failed. I mounted the encrypted hard dsk as secondary hard dsk, then installed COMPUSEC 5.1 (not 5.2) on onother hardisk (primary) using the same keyfile i used to encrypt earlier. Then with the utility i cud mark it as encrypted. Only works with compusec 5.1!

 | "Preference" Compusec 5.2 just got sleeker and simpler. A word of advice though: Compusec does not create a rescue disk on install so download the "compusec_utility.iso" (ftp://ftp.ce-infosys.com/misc/CompuSec_Utility.iso) from the free compusec user forum and burn as image to CD. It will serve as compusec's rescue disk incase you lose compusec's MBR or disk sector information. Though Compusec is closed source and has a steeper learning curve than the open source alternative (truecrypt) it has more features.

 | "Closed source" This is closed source. So better go with TrueCrypt, the better alternative.

 | "Media players" Response to my previous review: I re-downloaded free compusec 5.1 and re-encrypted my system afresh and it seems they solved the display issue with media players, my previous download was in 7th feb 2008. it looks like they have been making silent un-announced rectifications/updates within the same version, well now it rocks!

 | "Media players" free Compusec 5.1 does affect display of a number of video and TV software, i wonder

 | "Higgy," If you turn off the antivrus, install it,rebbot, set passwords etc, you'll need to turn the AV back on when you update,or use the net. So,logically, wouldn't a root kit finder like AVG Anti-Root kit detect it anyway?Could be just a false positive as it installs itself deep in the C: drive.

 | "" Vermin8tor,
If you look at the SnapFiles description (http://www.snapfiles.com/reviews/CompuSec_PC_Security_Suite/compusec.html), it states "Since the software needs to modify the Master Boot Record, it is important that you disable any anti-virus software during installation, otherwise the install will fail."

 | "Just wondering..." In regards to my other comment about this having a root kit...I was just wondering. This root kit I discovered, could it be an encryption tool that mistakenly gets ID'd as a root kit, but the Author doesn't tell you that?
Any 1 know?? But I'm still convinced it did some damage.Even 'Gmer' indicated there was some minor damage...
