PDF files offer a lot of convenience, but there are times when you may find it difficult to do some things using a standard PDF reader. For example, many viewers cannot find text in scanned documents or extract data to different file formats. Thankfully, ByteScout PDF Multitool will help you perform these functions and several others.

Using ByteScout PDF Multitool

Although ByteScout PDF Multitool required about 122 MB of free hard disc space for installation, the process was quick, taking about half a minute to complete successfully. The program displayed a graphical user interface with a small pane on the left for accessing various tools.

The first category of tools was for data extraction, but we had to load a file first, of course. We could extract text and data as TXT, CSV, XLS(X), XML or JSON files. Whichever option we chose opened a pop-up window where we entered appropriate parameters prior to extraction. We could use the default settings or enter our own, and we could extract only the current page or a specified range of pages.

We could extract the content to either a file or the Clipboard. When we extracted to a file, the file and folder where it was saved automatically opened. However, we could change that option from the "Preferences" window. Other features that we could configure under "Preferences" included choosing whether to maximize the window on startup, show startup menu, open recent document on startup and show open file dialog on startup.

In addition to extracting text and data, we could also extract embedded images and attachments. We had the option to extract raw images without transformation, and the output image format could be PNG, JPEG, TIFF, GIF or BMP.

The second set of tools allowed us to use the software as a free PDF converter. We could convert a selected area, the required pages or an entire document to bitmap, multipage TIFF, vector image or HTML file format.

The Utilities category contained various tools that we could use to split document, merge multiple documents, rotate document, add image to document and make a PDF document either searchable or unsearchable.

Conclusion

ByteScout PDF Multitool is a free PDF converter and PDF reader that also integrates many other functions. The software works relatively fast even when handling large scanned documents.
