This little application displays system information on your desktop in a similar way to some other desktop information tools. Unlike others, this application looks like wallpaper but stays resident in memory and continues to update the display in real time.

Uses very little memory and nearly zero cpu. Perfect for quick identification and walk-by monitoring of production or test server farms. Everything is customizable including language.

What´s new in version 1.10:

  • Change: Added battery status.
  • Change: Added option to disable ClearType.
  • Change: Added header item. See ini file.
  • Change: Added cpu kernel time.
  • Change: Added inimonitortime to options. This is the number of seconds to check the desktopinfo.ini file for changes.
  • Change: Added osbuild.
  • Change: Fixed a problem with reading process information for some system processes.
  • Change: Removed DISKQUEUE item. It's included on the DISKIO item.
  • Change: Added filter option to FIXEDDISK item.
 
FreewareFiles tested Desktop Info 1.10 on 2011-01-20 using leading antivirus scanners and found it 100% Clean. It does not contain any form of malware, spyware, viruses, trojans, etc. We will re-test each updated version and remove the award as well as the program if found infected.

Pros:  Tiny app, with comprehensive info. Doesn't require Java Runtime or the .NET Framework, to run.

Cons:  No configuration panel. But, even that's not too bad.

Other Thoughts:  You have to edit the ini file, to configure it. But, changes to the prog are almost instant, once you re-save the ini, and your desktop refreshes itself.
