| "How to speed up AVG" First disable schedule daily scans once a week scan is suffice .Also disable linkscanner this is what slows AVG 8 down install Macafee Siteadvisor free this will do a similar job as the linkscanner with no slowdown.Detection rate has slightly improved with this version as it now has built in anti-spyware which is probably one of the best of all the emerging AV programs which now seem to have this added protection.

| "Slows my laptop" This slows my laptop down,everything takes ages to open because of this. Back to Avira for me. Only thing Avira free hasn't got is the email scanner,which I can live without. Avira causes me no slowdown at all. Also I believe Avira has a better detection rate than AVG in independent tests. One problem with Avira free is that the updates can sometimes take a while,otherwise,great.

| "avg antivirus free 8.0" avg went downhill, microsoft windows live onecare kicks all antiviruses and spyware programs asses.I got the virtumonde virus and only thing that removed this was onecare from microsoft, go microsoft.

| "Too slow!" Sorry the new version has slowed my machine, it has 3GB ram with 3Ghz processor so I am now using Avast, it it much faster thankfully. Sorry AVG, I was a long standing customer of yours. Hope you get better soon.

| "Beats the pants off Avast" I use this with Avira antvir free to scan (superior detection rate although no email scanner free version)and AVG for scanning my emails no conflicts running these two AV programs.

Its purported detection prowess aside, it takes way too long to load upon bootup and its RAM usage is needlessly large as is the download size of 45.6mb, eventually installing to ~25mb.
The total downloads reported is partly due to how many times people had to restart the incomplete download.
If you have "Scan environment " checked it likely will pick up (shows valid) immunized/restricted active-x entries ---that's why it didn't "heal" them.
Its resident shield is often too slow and ponderous.
Sure, one can put programs in the Excluder but Windows systems , such as, one example, Add/Remove, takes excruciatingly long to load.(and even if you exclude a program , if they rely/use these Window systems, they too are affected)
In Window's Event Viewer, Application log , unless I disable the e-mail Service, I continually get a notice regarding the e-mail .exe not finding something.
Its external design, I care not... its internal design, I do.

| "Not bad" I decided to give this program a try after reading several reviews about it, and I find the program decent. I don't have any real quarrals over it except for the design. After being used to AVG Free 7.5, I had to get used to a new layout which I didn't like much, which is why I only rate this program good. Everything else about the program is "A Ok" by me!

| "Better detection" Yes AVG 8 uses more cpu due to the built in anti-spyware but the detection rate is excellent found loads of malware mainly hkcu active x trojan when i installed AVG after removing avast

| "CPU Eater" Sadly, I've trusted AVG Free for over 2 years. When I installed V8.0, the thing ate over 50% of the CPU of a 2.66G system that is totally optimized.
Normally running 89-94% system idle with a large power-user startup, AVG sat quietly and did it's job.
However, the new V8.0 totally clogs the system. I saw it literally "Cool Stone
Stop" a system designed and optimized..
...... Sadly, reporting this to AVG has
yet to resolve.
STAY WITH 7.5 AS LONG AS POSSIBLE !!!!!!

| "Disappointed" Been using AVG for years but not anymore. Updated to the new 8.0 version and it would not let me use my mouse. Locked up the mouse. Tried reinstall and same problem. Uninstalled but files were still left on the the computer. Couldn't delete them. Finally had to go to a early restore point to get rid of them. Switched to Avast. No problems. Avoid the new AVG like the plague.

| "and the winner is...AVG!" AVG most user friendly Complete free- AV -BETTER DETECTION than Avast which used to be the best a year ago,more user friendly than Avira Antvir although it has the BEST detetion rate over AVG and Avast it also has a higher false positive detection .
