"Works well"
AVG is so easy to use every set out on 1 neat interface so you can see all mode of protection.
I would not recommend having to antivirus programs on 1 computer as recommended by below reviewer Kunt as they can conflict with each other and slow your computer down to a crawl.

"V9 Have Been Fixed"
Just for curiosity I've downloaded and installed the AVG V.9.698 released on October 26. After five days of observation and testing,AVG has somehow fixed the memory problem caused by avgchsvx.exe. It behaves well now even for a computer with 1.66GHz Dual Core CPU and 1GB of RAM. Scanning is faster than previous releases and detected several Trojans that V8.5 or earlier was not able to detect.
I just don't know how this will behave if being installed right after making a clean OS install and before other software will be installed.
The latest release restore my confidence in AVG and its effort to address the problem.
For those who don't understand the concept of why there is paid and free version of AV software, my advise is to do a little research and exercise common sense. For those who are clumsy and don't know how to read between lines when performing a software installation, don't blame others for your stupidity but yourself.

"Works well"
I have used it in combination with the Free Avast Home Edition. They have no issues working together and I have not gotten a virus since I have had my laptop, which has been about 10 months now.

"Spyware ?"
It appears from AVG `s license conditions that they reserve the right to collect personally identifiable information on the user's computer, such as IP address, hardware, and installed software. That would so far be in order if you ask the user nicely whether you would attend. Forcing the user to participate in this, is against common decency, and we condemn such practices. Even though AVG probably will not misuse this information.
Another problem with AVG was signed, even today. I installed AVG `s free LinkScanner. The included "Security Toolbar" which includes Yahoo search is winged by a priori, so the less attentive user will have this installed, a quick installation of the program. Various toolbars should be something you even opt, and not something you will impose, in the way it is here.
I chose to install the toolbar, to see what security features it could possibly contain. In the next screen I get offered to opt in to Yahoo as my default search provider. This was such an option, so you have to put a checkbox if you want this. Fine enough, I failed to put the check mark, to keep Google as my preferred search provider.
When I saw had finished the installation, the Google toolbar popped up with information about my default search was being changed to Yahoo. If I had not received the warning, my search would therefore have been hijacking of the AVG to Yahoo, against my wish. I find it totally unacceptable that a security firm carries out acts which would otherwise only be done with dishonest software which they claim to want to protect their users against.

"From better to worse"
I agree with the previeus reviewer, AVG was TOP 1 before version 8 got out, from V.8 and above, it just got worser...and worser/version.
If you really want a free reliable AV and light antispyware protection go for Avira AntiVir Personal, it's detection is better then avast!'s and WAAAAAY better then the average AVG.
In my eyes this AV can only be given a 2 - Fair

AVG just get bigger uses more RAM because of all the extra features installed like antispyware and Linkscanner,unfortunately i much rather have version 7.5 back it was lighter uses less system resources and had a much better detection rate despite version 8 on adding poor antispyware and the useless Linkscanner.. bad move.

"Not the Best AV Across The Board"
With the release of V9.0, AVG would make your PC crawl if your processor is 1.8GHz or less and you are using less than 3GB of RAM. V8.5 is better as it manages the resources well and it exploit the power of multi-core.
V9.0 has a new program (avgchsvx.exe) that will supposedly scan for files that maybe considered safe so that it will not be scan over and over again. By design it should only run for a few hours using minimal resources. However, in as much as registries and setting of the PC constantly changes, it will run continuously. In my observation in several PCs that I've installed V9.0, it will check the RAM, take half of it where 70% of that portion will be exclusively use by avgchsvx.exe especially if your computer is idle. If PC is being used for other task, avgchsvx.exe will adjust memory usage but is always monitoring it. Thus, you will see frequent spikes because avgchsvx.exe will take back memory once release by other programs. This is the thing that will make your computer crawl.
I've reverted to V8.5 and I'm happy.

I agree with the previous reviewer.
AVG is the best free around right now, because it doesn't nag you every month or week or so like some other ones do like Avira, or have problems removing certain things like Avast!
The authors work hard on AVG & it is much lighter on resources that Norton or McAffee use up all my ram-ware!

"Very good virus protection software"
For me the best freeware virus protection software.
In an internet cafe AVG is installed on all computers and never made trouble. Update is silent and I never notice when it's update. Good choice.
But remember, no one software can't protect 100% of viruses.

"AVG average at best"
AVG would not uninstall left with loads of entries services, startup & registry which some would not delete had to install Unlocker to delete files.Reason uninstalling slows down laptop detection rates plummeting .
AVG = bloat, more bloat = more RAM use + Laptop down to a crawl.
Detection rates have dropped avcomparatives will confirm this ,trying Microsoft Security Essentials at present much better uses virtually no memory

AVG has turned into a bloatware antivirus program eats RAM and the detection rates are worse despite adding anti-spyware also i hate the nagscreen "Warning! Upgrade to paid version" if i really wanted to buy an AVG program would i want to buy AVG ?

"Time Tested"
MSE or Microsoft Security Essentials hasn't passed the test of time yet. AVG is a known time tested respected virus protection software. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". Not to mention IMO MSE doesn't detect all spyware/malware, only what it considers malicious. I like this software and since it's free, no reason to complain here.

What with Windows 7 and MSE, MS better watch out for the big head ... they're finally doing something right for a change.
Seriously, forget about AVG, Avast, Avira and the paid stuff. MSE and Threatfire are all that you need to battle the baddies: Fast, simple, unnoticeable, effective. Everything that AVG (and the rest of 'em) aren't.

Microsoft Security Essentials free not beta best free antivirus no false positives unlike AVG,Avast & Avira no nagware excellent detection works well with windows 7 beautiful nice slick interface so easy to use .
