"It's better then nothing" by: Oz AVG AntiVirus Free 2012 12.0 Build 1901a4695
Pros: Has some worthwhile features. But nothing that stands out! Cons: I've had one to many problems with it the past.Slow scan.false positives and other odd problems. Other Thoughts: I would consider other programs before ever using this again. Was this review helpful? 16 out of 31 users found this review helpful.

"Good!" by: John AVG AntiVirus Free 2012 12.0 Build 1901a4695
Pros: AVG is a decent free A/V that has realtime scanning of files that get downloaded. Cons: Although this is probably common to all or most A/V at the moment, & kudos to AVG for including Rootkit scanners in their later versions, but it seems a bit weak in the TDSS based family of rootkits.
Have encountered a few cases where rogue malware took over a system, reguardless of AVG/Norton/McAfee, & set themselves as the "default" antivirus.
A shame that rogue software would totally cripple security suites like this. Other Thoughts: TDSS style rootkits seem to be the Achilles heel of modern A/V programs, but I am sure that they are working on an update to counter it.
Overall, seems to do as well as Norton, without slowing a system as badly. Was this review helpful? 15 out of 28 users found this review helpful.

"Is this freeware?" by: rodude AVG AntiVirus Free 2012 12.0 Build 1873a4623
Pros: Seems great. Other Thoughts: Anything with marketing tactics and a trial period that ends after a certain period probably should not be deemed freeware such is usually shareware thus this wonderful site should not stock antivirus unless freeware. I and people I recommended this to had same drama's leading me to assume crappy marketing. Was this review helpful? 29 out of 57 users found this review helpful.

"Expecting better" by: Alias AVG AntiVirus Free 10.0.1321a3540
Pros: Free...it does offer reasonable good security against malware trojans viruses etc but it is not the best Cons: Only acheived 1 star rating (avcomparatives Feb 2011 latest test results)although it wasn't the worst (Webroot Antivirus and K7 antivirus? which i never even heard of got no stars )it should have done better Other Thoughts: Avira,Microsoft and Avast were better although Avast shoul d have been 3 star rated it lost points due to the fact it had too many false positives .Was this review helpful? 92 out of 184 users found this review helpful.

"AVG Need an Urgent Overhaul" by: cyberrover AVG AntiVirus Free 10.0.1321a3540
Pros: Speaking of protection it is still one of the best free malware scanner/remover Cons: During scanning, it does not use much of your CPU or RAM but takes up much of the virtual memory which causes most computers to slow down. It does not manage the resources that reside inside the computer well (e.i. multi threading) as claimed. The ad to upgrade is now become a 'nagger' as it is become a floating window which partially blocks the interface and cannot be hidden unless you close it. Other Thoughts: I'll give AGV one more program update to address the listed cons otherwise I will dump it.Was this review helpful? 105 out of 215 users found this review helpful.

"Just Some Comment" by: cyberbellee AVG AntiVirus Free 10.0.1321a3540
Pros: Improve interface. More options to choose from in the setting including scanning media files, removable devices, etc. Quite accurate virus detection with too few false positives. Greatly protected my computer since I started using it way back 2001. Cons: Starting on version 9, memory usage become unusually high. Although AVG has somehow manage to overcome this problem in V9, they have not learned their lesson in V10. The usual 15 minute scheduled scan in V9 become 1 hour and 23 minutes in V10 in a computer running Win XP on Core i7-920, 3GB memory and 1/3 full 1TB hardisk. Other Thoughts: I should have stick to V9. My other computer computer which is already 10 years old, running Win XP, 1.33Ghz P4, 1GB memory and half full 350GB harddisk is doing fine. Was this review helpful? 100 out of 202 users found this review helpful.

by: AVG AntiVirus Free 10.0.1204a3403
Pros: It's (coughs) free... Cons: Don't run this on Vista!!! Other Thoughts: Intel Wizard summed it up... Maybe these people who get this anti-virus just go on 1 site on the internet??? I just don't get AVG's popularity?? You best get some back-up protection if just running AVG that's for sure!!!Was this review helpful? 98 out of 206 users found this review helpful.

"Slows everything down" by: deebee AVG AntiVirus Free 10.0.1204a3402
Pros: It's free Cons: I see lots of people says this slows down older/less powerful PC's,well it's slowed down every PC or laptop I've ever tried it on,older/powerful/less powerful, doesn't matter, slows them all to crawling speed. Try it & see for yourself. But remember,it's not that easy to get rid of it! Other Thoughts: AVG used to be okay years ago,now it's terrible. Stick with Avast! or Avira. I've never had either of those affect performance. Was this review helpful? 108 out of 216 users found this review helpful.

"Never had a promblem" by: Jarrath AVG AntiVirus Free 10.0.1204a3402
Pros: Can catch most basic trojan viruses. Cons: nothing Other Thoughts: For somthing that is free. I've been using AVG free edition for years with little to no promblems. So long as you use common sense with the sites and downloads you do. You won't have a promblem. Note: I use vista and XP Was this review helpful? 110 out of 225 users found this review helpful.

"WOW" by: intel wizard AVG AntiVirus Free 10.0.1191a3330
Other Thoughts: Almost a million downloads for probably the worst freeware out there. Every computer that runs Vista and has AVG has had problems, based on my experience anyways. CCleaner - Crawler Toolbar - MSE -Was this review helpful? 147 out of 275 users found this review helpful.

"How to find your virus scanner" by: HonestUser AVG AntiVirus Free 10.0.1188a3311
Pros: AVG is alright if you have a modern computer with lots of RAM and a fast CPU. Detection rates are ok. Cons: There are better alternatives, such as Avira AntiVir. Or Avast! if you haven't got the latest hardware. Other Thoughts: I have found a very good ressource for comparing antivirus software according to benchmarks. It shows idle and peak RAM usage, as well as scan times, boot time delay, installation size, etc:
http://www.raymond.cc/antivirus/
Based on this information I downloaded and tested four freeware antivirus packages on my machine: Avira AntiVir, Avast, AVG and Panda Cloud Antivirus. And it turned out that Avast suits best for my needs, because my computer isn't the fastest. But if I had a newer machine, I'd definitely use Avira AntiVir. To find out the best antivirus software for you, test them! Personally, I think you can't go wrong with the antivirus software I mentioned above. They are all good. Now find out which runs best on your computer. Was this review helpful? 149 out of 295 users found this review helpful.

"Big, bulky software" by: Bluemax AVG AntiVirus Free 10.0.1170a3265
Pros: Effective and powerful antivirus and anti everything else they could think of application. Completely free. Cons: Big resource user. This thing always seems to be online downloading updates and who-knows-what. It is nearly impossible to set it not to. If you want control you won't have it. AVG AntiVirus wants to completely run your computer security. If you set it to run at minimum levels it will hound you with popups. Other Thoughts: If you want an application that can completely deal with virus and malware issues by itself and you are willing to let it use up your RAM and your internet connection when it feels the need this might be the ticket. If you don't like that description you should keep looking. Was this review helpful? 146 out of 291 users found this review helpful.
