This is the best multi IM out there! It is very low on ressources, so it's very fast. It also looks very good and has great functions. You can also extend it to your needs via plugins that are available from their website. And the best is: It's free and open source!!! by: Boyracer | 5 | 2009-02-26 | | | | "Just what I was looking for: low memory usage"
Every MSN capable instant messaging program I've tried up until now uses so much memory that it's pitiful. In that case, it makes any computer that's running it with a low RAM amount so slow when doing other tasks that it's completely impossible to have your IM sitting in the tray while other tasks are being done. That has not been the case with Miranda. This is what I've been looking for. It only uses about 5MB of RAM when it's sitting in the tray, where other programs use 40, even 50MB in the tray! Miranda is the best! Thank You! by: Rayburn | 5 | 2007-08-25 | | | | "I am so glad"
Since all of my chums don't use one single IM protocol I had to leave on AIM, Jabber, MSN and YH! Messenger on to see that I'm online with all my pals. Of course I have tried other multi-protocol IM clients but none of them seemed to suffice. Miranda is a solution as it is multi-protocol and barely uses up anything. It's a little dunting to configure everything but with a little spit and polish the result is amazing. Besides, it's way better than have 4 rescource hogging clients active at once! by: dn_desaku | 5 | 2007-08-07 | | | | "EFECTIVE and FAST"
Without all the annoying things regular msn clients have (winks and obstrusive animated gifs) miranda is the best app ever..
it does have cam support (between mirandas) and a whole lot of plugin-based features. takes sometimes to get it to work though, but it is completely worth it.
low memory comsumption, and great looks..
try it you wont regret by: legion1978 | 5 | 2007-06-19 | | | | "Underrated"
I just recently started using Miranda as a replacement to Trillian Pro, and I must say I'm impressed. Miranda connects to all the protocols I need it to (MSN, AIM, Yahoo, ICQ, Jabber, GoogleTalk, IRC), and has hundreds of plugins that can make the program even *more* functional. To get this level of functionality in Trillian, you have to pony up $25. Miranda is *FREE*.
On the negative side, I found that Miranda took a *lot* of configuring to get it to work and look the way I wanted it to. There's a metric ton of configurable options that can be tweaked, but I found myself wishing for options that were a little easier to understand. Tweaking options was mostly a trial and error experience. There was a lot of "Oh THAT'S what that does!" on my part. A concise, clearly-documented help file would be a godsend. As it stands, the Miranda IRC chatroom and the forums on the website are extremely helpful, but kind of a pain to sift through.
All in all, I would highly recommend Miranda to anyone who likes a fast, free and flexible IM program. by: Inkpot | 4 | 2007-02-12 | | | | "THIS ROCKS"
BEST friggin program EVER!! i use it to get passed my school networks settings now everyone wants me to tell them the program LOL THIS IS THE BEST!!! by: THIS ROCKS | 5 | 2006-03-16 | | | | "The best IM program"
Miranda is the best IM software, that allows you to chat with users of different IM services (ICQ, AIM, MSN, Yahoo among them) from one program/list of contacts and it takes less disk space than any of those IM clients. It also has some features not available in ICQ itself (like deleting your name from someone's list of contacts or checking the real status of people on your contact list even when they are disguised as "unseen").
The menu can be quite difficult to tune at once in comparison with ICQ menu, but eventually you can work it out.
Numerous plugins and language packs are also available for download from the site.
It might not support video/voice chat, but for regular messaging/file transfer Miranda is all you need. I uninstalled ICQ from my computer and left Yahoo in case I want to see someone's webcam or chat using my headset, but otherwise I use only Miranda. by: Andy Ash | 5 | 2006-02-05 | | | | "The best IM program"
