Ever since I installed FFDShow, the only thing I ever change about it is install new versions. There's no way I can see myself without it. I don't buy much software, but this freebie got my donation.
Although players like KM Player, that have many decoders built-in, reduce the need for FFDShow, it still provides required functions, such as VFW components required by VirtualDub. FFDS will decode just about anything you're likely to encounter. Ever run into an AVI with MPEG encoded video, for example?

FFD-show is a Video decoding engine, it is not a bunch of codecs.
And it removes cleanly.

It leaves behind codecs upon umunstall-even after a system restore,have to remove a lot of things from system32 folder and the registry.

Please disregard what such an utter imbecile has to say. This is one of the most powerful A/V applications you can find, and eliminates the need for mpeg4 codecs (DivX, XviD, etc). The interface may not be the most user-friendly, but you'd be hard-pressed to find an app that does even half as much as this one does.
