"Down the wrong path"

"Too unreliable"

Pros: I have tried the latest 32 and 64 bit versions.
Conversion is fast and results are good, when it works. Cons: Results are unreliable.
Tried to convert a few Nero h.263 files. Gave an error for those over 2GB at the end of the conversion. For the others the audio was out of sync. A few files converted ok.
Also previously had problems getting the auto-cropping to work. Will also sometimes break the aspect ratio, even if the setting is to retain it. "This COULD be excellent"

Pros: Very flexible; able to perform a multitude of conversions. When it works, it proves its usefulness. Cons: Accepts and tries to process requests that are technically not feasible, instead of checking for validity of request and informing user of inconsistencies. Such attempts fail with no clear indication as to the reasons for the failures. Other Thoughts: I haven't used this program for some time now, but I was very excited about it in its early days, so much so that I made a donation to help its development. However, in more recent times, the developer has gone out to left field, and appears to be clueless about proper programming technique (I'm speaking as a programmer with over 40 years IT experience).
I have no problems with the GUI, but I dislike the Firefox driven settings process, as well as the constant addition of new features while some fundamental logic flaws are still present and ignored by the developer. Also, if I recall correctly, there have been increasing hints of the presence of nagware and/or spyware that are annoying.Was this review helpful? 45 out of 80 users found this review helpful.

Pros: It converts just about anything you need converted. Performs well, and does so, very fast. Cons: Not a fairly large fan of the GUI, I don't like the wizard. Filled with ads. Not made for the average user - even the wizard is too complex for the average user. Other Thoughts: There needs to be a simplified screen GUI that makes it simple for users to simply select the file and choose an output standard. Like going from AVI -> YouTube or Divx -> MPG2 ... "nagware but..."

Other Thoughts: this is a very good program; I give it 10/10 for what it can do BUT UNFORTUNATELY it is nagware; for those who want to use MediaCoder and forget about nags about update, splashscreen and visiting sponsors websites (all of that nags can supposedly be disabled but the sad truth is that it is completely impossible...) Other Thoughts: I love it! It is VERY fast (as were previous versions.) I do not get the crashes on converting .mov to mpeg4 anymore (those occurred *frequently* in version 0.6) Personally I like the extra buttons to control framesize, codec versions, etc. If you are trying to get multiple videos to match in a project but they have different formats, resolutions, frame rates, etc, then this program is a true blessing!! It has made preparation work for my DVDs a breeze. If you don't know what a button does, don't worry about it. Why not focus on what it needed on the UI, such as:

How hard would it be to make it simple?
I don't want to spend the next 10 years learning everything there is to know about 1 program that does everything but what I really want it to do.
