If you would like to create or manage the partitions on your hard drive, then PartitionGuru Free will help you perform these tasks among others. For example, you can use the intuitive software to delete or format partitions, recover lost partitions and files, clone partitions and recover data.

Using PartitionGuru Free

During the installation process, PartitionGuru Free gave us a warning not to choose the installation directory in the partition where we wanted to recover files. Doing so would destroy the files beyond recovery. Since the software has many functions, we have chosen to focus on only two in this review, starting with resizing an existing partition.

While we could use the built-in disk management tool to resize our partition, we did not want to delete files in the partition, and PartitionGuru Free allowed us to retain our data. When we launched the software, it listed the current partitions and their respective states.

We right-clicked the partition we wanted to resize to open a context menu that gave us the option to resize partition in addition to several others. A pop-up dialog box appeared that displayed the current data allocation and allowed us to set the desired partition size. When we clicked the 'Start' button, a message box appeared asking us to confirm whether we wanted to go ahead with the resizing process, and we clicked 'Yes.'

The program displayed the steps it was performing as well as the elapsed and remaining times.

While many people are used to creating partitions, there are times when it becomes necessary to recover an already existing partition. A partition may disappear due to various reasons, such as power outage, improper system shutdown or virus attack. You may notice something you do not understand or unallocated space where a partition was supposed to be.

You can use PartitionGuru Free to search for deleted or lost partitions and then repair the partition table or recover files in the partition. We intentionally deleted a partition to see how the recovery process worked.

When we clicked the 'Recover Lost Partitions' button, the recovery function displayed a window where we needed to perform the recovery, and the program started searching for lost partitions when we clicked the next button.

We had several options once the software had found a lost partition. It displayed various details that helped us identify the partition we wanted to recover, including location, volume label and size. We could keep the partition by clicking the 'Reserve' button or simply choose to preview its files. If we did not want to keep a partition, we clicked the 'Ignore' button for the software to continue the search process.

Upon completion of the search, the program showed the number of lost partitions found. We could either copy folders and files to a desired destination or save the partition table.

Conclusion

PartitionGuru Free is a versatile partition management program that performs many functions. The software is compatible with all types of storage media, including virtual disks, memory cards, SSD, RAID and USB flash drives.
