LGCK Builder is a free game maker that is suited to both the novice and experienced game builder.

You no longer need to learn or master programming languages in order to develop your own games. Tools like LGCK Builder bring the skill into your orbit of possibility, providing an entire array of tools and a comprehensive environment in which to use them.

Develop any kind of 2D game you can imagine, creating your own objects, placing them and bringing them to life.

The LGCK free game maker provides:

  • Multiple layers - create layers and overlays, then hand them over to the engine to work out the details.
  • Sprite creation and editing.
  • Ability to define animation sequences for each situation to operate automatically.
  • A customizable event model - easy scripting to extend and redesign its default behavior.

Download and set up LGCK Builder, and get started

Upon launch, the free game maker displays a splash screen where you access the sprite editor and start your game. The graphic user interface is comprised of a workspace, a toolbox, and a menu bar.

Games are developed using a number of layers, on which your levels and sprites are placed, and overlays for effects. Sprites are the interactive components. Background sprites are elements such as trees, bricks, sky, etc., and foreground sprites are your players and the switches, levers, and platforms that bring them to life.

The Sprite Wizard

Go to 'Sprite' on the File menu and select 'Create New' to bring up the wizard. This gives you the option of being guided through the process or streamlining it for speed. In the 'Easy Setup,' you name your sprite and select what type it is. If you're creating a monster, you'll be given additional options. Then you move through various screens where you create or modify images to represent your sprite, set up its features, actions, and triggers. Once created, you save your sprite to the Toolbox.

You'll find your different levels in the 'Builder Toolbox' which is accessed from 'Build' tab on the File menu. This also lets you create new levels and edit existing ones. Level properties include colors, features such as music and its duration, events and advanced actions.

LGCK Builder is not only a great free game builder; it is also a fantastic game builder learning tool. The help link to the developer's website provides a full explanation of every aspect of the game building process, displaying each screen required to create the various elements and fully explaining the whys and wherefores. Event scripts are available as well as explanations of all the programming involved. You can make changes to the program's settings and get help anytime from the tabs on the menu bar. Downloadable tutorial material, complete with images and sound files, is available to make your first game project attempt even easier to complete.

The free game creator is, in fact, an all-in-one game building kit that provides a framework for creating many kinds of games. It is simple to use, includes lots of support information for new users and enables games to be created quickly and easily.
